The World's Largest Blueberry That Ate New Zealand

World's Largest Blueberry Visual Media slide

The world’s largest blueberry is about to hit New Zealand soil, literally. The Eterna variety, famed for its ping-pong-ball size and 20.4 gram world-record fruit, is being planted in Kerikeri and Waikato by The Fresh Berry Company in partnership with global powerhouse Driscoll’s.

No genetic tinkering here, just old-school breeding and a lot of patience. Each plant has been cleared by MPI and propagated through tissue culture to produce the kind of blueberries that could double as marbles. Early batches will appear on supermarket shelves next year, likely as limited-edition luxury fruit.

This move nudges New Zealand into the premium fruit lane, where size, texture, and shelf life become bragging rights. Forget “superfood”, this is “super-sized food,” and it’s bound to light up TikTok, smoothie bowls, and Sunday markets alike.
