What To Eat on GLP-1 & Why Avocado Keeps Showing Up

Weight-loss drugs are no longer fringe. With GLP-1 medications now embedded across a significant and growing share of US households,( as high as 20% penetration) the nutrition question is shifting fast: what should people actually eat when appetite, digestion and meal size are fundamentally altered?

Clinical evidence helps point the way. A randomised 3×3 crossover study, published in a peer-reviewed journal and indexed on PubMed, shows that adding avocado to a mixed meal can improve post-meal blood glucose response and satiety, particularly in overweight adults. For GLP-1 users, those outcomes are not theoretical, they map directly onto daily challenges around energy dips, under-eating and nutritional adequacy.

The relevance goes beyond Hass avocados specifically. While the study used Hass, the functional benefits come from avocado’s broader food matrix of soluble fibre, unsaturated fats and low glycaemic load, meaning any whole avocado variety delivers similar nutritional mechanics. In a GLP-1 world dominated by smaller meals, avocado is emerging as a way to make less food work harder.
