Record Fruit Exports Lift New Zealand’s Horticultural Fortune

Record Fruit Exports Lift New Zealand’s Horticultural Fortune media slide

New Zealand’s fruit exports hit $5.68 billion in 2025, a record 42 percent increase on the previous year. Kiwifruit remained the standout performer, driving the total value of fresh and processed horticultural exports to $6.85 billion.

Top destinations are China, the EU, Japan, and Australia, who captured nearly two-thirds of fruit export value, with China alone representing more than a quarter of all horticultural trade. Growth was underpinned by improved logistics, a return to optimal yields, and ongoing recovery from past weather-related supply shocks.

The government’s goal of doubling produce exports by 2034 now looks achievable, with premium fruit brands reinforcing New Zealand’s global status as a dependable supplier of high-value fresh produce.
