How New Zealand’s Pure Food Co Brings Healthcare Nutrition to France

Forget bland mush in nursing homes as New Zealand’s The Pure Food Co takes its age-care nutrition smarts offshore. Its French subsidiary, The Pure Food Co France, has teamed up with healthcare giant emeis and Sysco France to deliver meals with modified textures (IDDSI 4) that look and taste like real food, not clinical slop.

The scale is jaw-dropping. France has nearly 2 million people with swallowing difficulties, often stroke survivors, and most face joyless plates. By producing pureed dishes locally, Pure Food Co keeps the flavour, colour, and cultural familiarity intact while boosting protein and energy to prevent malnutrition. More appetising food also means less waste, so hospitals save while patients thrive.

With over 700 menu combinations and a nomination at the SilverEco & Ageing Well Awards 2025, this is more than just a New Zealand export—it’s proof that functional food innovation can humanise healthcare. Food in hospitals is finally reclaiming its role as a moment of pleasure, dignity, and wellbeing.
