IMPOSSIBLE Foods Burgers Go ProSport

IMPOSSIBLE Plant-Based Meat Goes ProSport visual media slide

Impossible Foods has just become the first plant-based meat brand to earn NSF Certified for Sport status, a coveted credential previously reserved for protein powders, electrolyte drinks, and performance snacks. This isn’t just a badge; it’s a doorway into gyms, training centres, and stadium concession menus worldwide.

The certification, which screens products for nearly 300 banned substances, signals Impossible Beef and Impossible Burger meet the purity and transparency standards trusted by elite athletes. It gives plant-based protein a new kind of legitimacy, the sports science kind. For years, sceptics have dismissed meat-free patties as “junk food for vegans”, now, the same meals may soon feature in team catering contracts and athlete meal plans.

Beyond the locker room, this legitimisation could ripple through supermarkets, universities, and hospital menus where “clean label” and “performance nutrition” are merging fast. In a market where words like “recovery,” “fuel,” and “endurance” sell faster than “vegan,” Impossible’s move could reframe plant-based food as performance food, a vastly more inclusive playing field.
