The global demand for almonds is about to hit a new high. According to the latest report from the US Department of Agriculture, global almond output is forecast to reach around 1.8 million metric tons (shelled) in the coming season, the highest volume since 2020-21.

That surge is driven by strong harvests in the United States, plus increased contributions from the European Union and Australia. Meanwhile, demand grows, thanks in large part to growing interest in plant-based proteins and diversified protein sources beyond conventional meat.

Almonds now increasingly look like a contender against animal protein. With about 21–22 g of protein per 100 g (or roughly 6–7 g per 30 g handful), almonds offer a satisfying protein punch, a trait resonating with consumers shifting toward plant-forward diets.
