The Food Planet Prize 2025 longlist has been announced, recognising 39 groundbreaking initiatives across 23 countries currently revolutionising global food systems.


Among the contenders are projects from New Zealand and Australia, both positioned to make a lasting impact alongside influential initiatives from the UK, the US and Africa.


New Zealand’s ANDFOODS has caught global attention with its innovative use of lentil-based fermentation technology to create dairy alternatives. This approach not only addresses the environmental concerns associated with traditional dairy farming but also provides a sustainable, scalable option for dairy production. Their efforts exemplify the shift towards eco-friendly and health-conscious food solutions.

Australia’s Food Frontier is making waves as a thought leader in the alternative protein sector. By driving policy advocacy, market development, and consumer education, Food Frontier ensures that Australia remains at the forefront of food technology advancements. Their focus on promoting plant-based and cultivated meat innovations aligns with the need to transition to more sustainable protein sources.

From the UK, the ProVeg School Plates Program is revolutionising school meals, introducing healthier and more sustainable options to young students, thus influencing dietary habits for future generations.


Meanwhile, the US-based TurtleTree is leading the charge in cell-based dairy production, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional dairy by producing animal-free milk proteins through advanced biotechnology.


The Food Planet Prize sponsored by Entrepreneur and Philathropist, Curt Bergfors is not just about recognition - it is backed by substantial financial support with a single winner walking away with $2 million - the largest environmental prize dedicated to transforming the food system.


This funding is aimed at projects with the potential to create radical change and help address the climate crisis through innovative food solutions.
