Texture-modified food isn’t just for the elderly in care homes. And finally, someone’s doing something about it.

After years of fielding desperate messages from families trying to feed loved ones post-surgery, post-chemo, or post-accident, New Zealand-based startup The Pure Food Co has announced a long-awaited move - home delivery.

Partnering with meal delivery provider EAT, the company is now making its high-protein, texture-modified meals available to households across New Zealand. The shift marks a quietly significant moment for the millions who fall through the cracks of aged care and hospital systems—but still need help to eat.

“Not everyone who needs texture-modified food is in care,” says Co-ounder and CEO Sam Bridgewater. “We’ve had countless messages over the years from people asking if they could get our meals at home. Until now, the answer was frustrating: not really.”

That changes today.

The partnership with EAT, a company already trusted to deliver nutritious meals to homes nationwide, gives The Pure Food Co a reliable platform to reach people where it matters most: their own kitchen. From post-op recovery and cancer treatment to neurological conditions or even a broken jaw, it’s a quietly transformative offering aiming to restore dignity, strength, and nutrition to those who need it most.

“This isn’t about scale or big revenue lines,” Sam Bridgewater says. “It’s about service, and making sure no one is left behind just because they don’t fit neatly into the aged care system.”

It’s not The Pure Food Co’s first foray into the home market—an earlier attempt years ago fell short of the team’s standards and was scrapped. But this time, they’re doing it with confidence.

“We weren’t proud of what we put out last time, so we pulled it,” Sam Bridgewater admits. “Now, with EAT, we know we can deliver the right experience.”

The move comes as texture-modified food, once a niche aged care solution, gains new relevance in medical recovery, neurodegenerative care, and chronic illness support. Nutritionally balanced and designed to be both palatable and easy to swallow, the meals meet an underserved but rapidly growing need in the population.

And there’s more brewing across the ditch: The Pure Food Co is piloting a similar initiative in Western Australia with Home Chef, signalling broader expansion plans to bring this essential food category into the mainstream, quietly, and with care.
